After leaving Burlington and a slow marketing situation, I raced pell mell down the highway to try to reach Connecticut before nightfall. Of course, it was dark by the time I was trying to find Peri's house in Willington. Her directions, however, were clear and I succeeded with only one wrong turn, easily corrected.
Peri was my friend from my Allegheny College days in Pennsylvania -- a friend of my youth. She is an artist and her life now revolves around that personna. Her nature is warm and out-going but has come to rest in the little village where she now lives her life.
I arrived the next morning at the Massachusetts building at the Big E (Eastern States Exposition) and found that through some snafu, our marketing organization had no booth. Space was made for me at the end of the Massachusetts tourism counter (me, a Maine author) and there I managed to sell two books and give out a lot of Massachusetts road maps.

Recently my book marketing organization organized some venues for its members to sell books. Being new, I entered wholeheartedly into the plan. The virst stop was Burlington, Vermont for their annual Book Fair. Well, I can't complain -- I did sell a couple of books. But the best thing about the trip to that city was dinner at Pauline's restaurant. The food was delicious, but the entertainment was even better.
I entered the restaurant, my current reading material under my arm, and approached the maitre D. He informed me sorrowfully that there were no more single tables due to an unexpected onslaught of single diners. He suggested a place at the bar.
Well, I'm not a bar-dining person ordinarily, but I was hungry and it was a strange town. I didn't feel like venturing further from my hotel. I spotted an empty chair on the far side of the small bar and said I would take that one.
